EESI Earns Top 4-Star Rating For Sixth Consecutive Time | Press Release

EESI has once again been rated a four-star charity by Charity Navigator, for the sixth time running. Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator, reviews 17 governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness when making its determinations. It only awards its top rating to the most fiscally responsible and transparent organizations, whose best practices minimize the chance of unethical activities.

According to Charity Navigator President Ken Berger, "Only 3% of the charities we rate have received at least 6 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Environmental and Energy Study Institute outperforms most other charities in America. This 'exceptional' designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Environmental and Energy Study Institute from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust."

EESI Board Chairman Jared Blum expressed delight upon learning the news. "EESI does a stellar job managing its finances, it absolutely deserves this recognition. In these uncertain economic times, it's important for our supporters to see that we take our fiduciary and governance responsibilities very seriously.”

Charity Navigator's announcement closely follows one from GreatNonprofits, which allows individuals to rate their experiences with nonprofits. In early December, GreatNonprofits awarded a “2012 Top Rated” award to EESI for the second year in a row. Fewer than 1% of eligible nonprofits won a place on the 2012 Top-Rated List. EESI made the cut thanks to themany spectacular reviews submitted by its supporters: nearly all of them gave EESI Five Stars, the highest possible rating.

One reviewer wrote, "After 4 years in the environmental field, I have yet to see any group of people devote the amount of time, energy, research, and standard of excellence that EESI delivers on a daily basis. They are a constant presence on the Hill and in the offices of Senators and Congressman on both sides of the aisle." Another complimented EESI's ability to "pull diverse groups of people together, public and private; national, regional, or state; left, right, or middle; to lay the foundation for widespread adoption of clean energy and energy efficiency."
