Charity Navigator, America’s top charity evaluator with more than 11 million visitors annually, has recognized the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) with its seal of approval, awarding it four out of four stars and a 99 percent rating. EESI has been deemed a “Give with Confidence” charity.

“There is no doubt that EESI has an outsized impact in our shared work to advance science-based solutions for climate change, energy, and environmental challenges,” said EESI President Daniel Bresette. “We are presently very focused on effective and equitable implementation of the historic federal investments in climate action. We must do everything possible to ensure the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act are successful. There is important work to do on Capitol Hill in support of state and community implementation, including in rural areas where energy burdens are highest.”

Charity Navigator evaluated EESI’s financial efficiency and trustworthiness, as well as our commitment to a high standard of governance practices and policies. EESI scored 100 out of 100 points in this area. The evaluator also examined EESI’s strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, awarding EESI a score of 94. And Charity Navigator took a look at EESI’s dedication to our mission, vision, and goals, which also scored a perfect 100.

“We are proud to have earned the Four-Star Charity designation—and to have done so for the fourteenth time! This is no one-off: EESI has consistently shown itself to be a trustworthy steward of donor funds,” said EESI Board Chair Jared Blum. “We are transparent, responsible, accountable, and we hold diversity, equity, and inclusion as core values. Of course, EESI also has a long history of being one of the most effective and impactful climate change nonprofits in the United States.”

According to Charity Navigator President and CEO Michael Thatcher, “We are delighted to provide the Environmental and Energy Study Institute with third-party accreditation that validates their operational excellence. The Four-Star Rating is the highest possible rating an organization can achieve. We are eager to see the good work that EESI is able to accomplish in the years ahead.”

EESI also maintains a 2023 Platinum Seal of Transparency on Candid (formerly Guidestar), the world’s largest source of nonprofit information, and is a 2023 Top Rated Nonprofit according to GreatNonprofits.
