For the first time, EESI has been approved as a 1% for the Planet Environmental Partner. 1% for the Planet Members—companies like Patagonia, Flickr, and OXO—commit 1% of their sales to Environmental Partners.

“We made the cut! EESI is now one of 1% for the Planet’s Environmental Partners, a global network of environmental organizations,” said EESI Board Chair Jared Blum. “And the timing could not be more perfect, as this recognition comes during EESI’s year-long celebration of our 40 years of advancing climate solutions.”

1% for the Planet carefully vetted EESI before accepting us,” explained EESI President Daniel Bresette. “They looked at our mission statement, organizational structure, history and longevity, leadership, impact areas, and finances. We are very proud to have been recognized as a trustworthy, effective Environmental Partner at this critical time for climate solutions.”

EESI was recently nominated to join 1% for the Planet by one of our Sustaining Partners, a group of EESI donors who give monthly. This EESI Sustaining Partner’s business is a 1% for the Planet Member, and a nomination by a current member is the only way new Environmental Partners may join the network.

1% for the Planet was founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies. Today, 1% for the Planet has over 4,872 corporate members that have given more than $672 million for environmental causes in over a hundred countries.

Companies can join 1% for the Planet and designate EESI as their Environmental Partner of choice. People often look for the 1% for the Planet logo to ensure at least 1% of a business’s spending goes to environmental causes.
