EESI and George Washington University Launch New Scholarship
The Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) and George Washington University are delighted to announce Master’s degree candidate Amelia Lindsay-Kaufman as the first recipient of the new Environmental and Energy Study Institute Graduate Fellowship. An anonymous benefactor established a new endowment in EESI’s name to support graduate students at the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration of the George Washington University Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. The donor established the endowment in the spirit of EESI’s mission and vision for a sustainable, resilient, and equitable world.

EESI Launches Future Climate Leaders Scholarship
As part of its commitment to promote and advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) is announcing a new scholarship for Future Climate Leaders. EESI will award up to $5,000 each academic year to an undergraduate student pursuing studies relevant to environmental, clean energy, and climate policy at a historically Black college or university (HBCU) in the mid-Atlantic or southern region.
USDA Announces Energy Audit Applications for Grants Now Being Accepted
Audits are required for energy efficiency projects funded by REAP costing over $50,000. Parties seeking audits must pay 25 percent of audit costs. State, tribal or local government, land-grant colleges and universities, or other institutions of higher education, rural electric cooperatives, and public power entities are eligible to receive funds.

USDA Awards $18.2 Million for Sec. 9006 Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Projects
On September 20, 2007, Under Secretary for Rural Development Thomas Dorr announced that 345 proposals had been selected to receive a total of $18.2 million in loan guarantees and grants from the US Agriculture Department’s (USDA) Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency program (Sec. 9006 of the 2002 Farm Bill (P.L. 107-171). These awards are the last installment of the Sec. 9006 awards for FY07.
USDA Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Rule Change to Rural Development Guaranteed Loans
On September 14, 2007, the USDA announced a public comment period for a proposed rule change. The rule change would combine four existing guaranteed loan programs; Community Facility, Water and Waste Disposal, Business and Industry, and Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency Improvement Programs; into a unified loan platform for enhanced delivery of these programs.

On March 21, 2007 Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns announced the solicitation for proposals for the Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency Improvements Program (Section 9006) authorized under Title IX, of the 2002 Farm Bill.
