House Committee Seeks Public Comment on Renewable Fuel Standard

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce is undertaking an assessment of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). This week, the Committee issued the first of five white papers that will focus on various technical, economic, environmental, and policy aspects. The first paper focuses on "Blend Wall/Fuel Compatibility" issues. The Committee is seeking stakeholder input by April 5 on a series of questions.

How Much More Domestic Corn Ethanol and Imported Sugar Ethanol Should EPA Require in 2013?

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking comments from stakeholders on the EPA’s proposed Renewable Fuel Standards for 2013. The proposed final standards would require the blending of more domestic corn ethanol in 2013 than was anticipated by the original 2007 statute and more imported sugar ethanol from Brazil. Does that make sense at this time? Comments are due by April 7.

Bipartisan Governors Coalition Calls on Congress to Keep Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) in Place

The Governors’ Biofuels Coalition, which represents governors in 33 states, sent a letter to the House and Senate leadership, urging them to "reject any modifications to the RFS" and calling for "continued expansion of our domestic biofuels industry through a strong Renewable Fuels Standard."

Bipartisan Senate Majority Defeats Attempt to Shift Funds from DOD Biofuel Program

An effort to shift funds from the military’s alternative fuel program failed, by a bipartisan vote of 40-59.
