Energy Information Administration Reports Gasoline Prices Are Rising Again
Despite rapidly rising domestic production of petroleum, gasoline prices are still rising. There are many diverse reasons for this, however, continuing high fuel prices underscore the fact that, so long as the United States remains dependent on oil (foreign or domestic), the nation’s economic and energy security will remain tied to volatile global oil markets – no matter how much more petroleum we produce here at home.

Can the U.S. Achieve Its Biofuel Goals?
This week, the EPA zeroed out its 2012 cellulosic biofuel requirements following a court ruling, while it also approved new biomass feedstocks and pathways for the production of more climate-friendly advanced biofuels. Advanced Biofuel Developer Stops Project, While Biofuel Challenges Mount in Congress and Courts
Rentech announced the closing of its advanced biofuels demonstration plant in Colorado this week, saying that it did not expect markets for alternative energy in the U.S. to improve "within the next several years." Meanwhile, biofuel opponents demonstrated their resolve to make this so in Congressional testimony, new legislation, and litigation this week.
Biofuel Producers Receive Certification for Sustainability
How can consumers be assured that biofuels are sustainable for the environment and communities, as well as for businesses? The Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels (RSB) and its implementing organization, the RSB Services Foundation, are finding the way. This week, they announced new certifications for two biofuel producers.
