Senate to Begin Floor Debate on Farm Bill: Energy and Conservation Programs at Stake

The Senate is expected to begin floor debate on the Farm Bill this week. In a significant victory for rural renewable energy development and the bioeconomy of the future, the bill would require spending $800 million over five years to continue many current rural energy efficiency, bioenergy, and other renewable energy initiatives and authorize up to $1.14 billion more, subject to the annual discretion of appropriators. Compared to the 2008 Farm Bill, however, mandatory funding for both conservation and energy programs would be cut significantly.

June 21: 15th Annual Congressional Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency EXPO + Policy Forum

On June 21, the Sustainable Energy Coalition — in cooperation with the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Caucuses — will host the 15th Annual Congressional Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency EXPO + Forum. The EXPO is free, open to the public, and no RSVPs are required. The events will be held on Thursday, June 21, 9:30am-4:30pm in the 345 Cannon House Office Building (Cannon Caucus Room).
