Rural Energy for America Program Report Touts Progress

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has released a report describing the impacts of the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) over the past several years. Thousands of renewable energy and energy efficiency programs were supported across the U.S. resulting in significant energy savings and other economic and environmental benefits.

On March 20, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack released a report detailing the success of the REAP program. Vilsack reported that, since 2009, REAP has: supported more than 5,700 renewable energy and energy efficiency projects; generated or saved approximately 6,500 megawatt hours of power; and leveraged approximately $800 million in additional investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency from other public and private sources.
