Happy Thanksgiving !!
Here at EESI, we are grateful to all of our supporters for helping us advance clean energy and climate solutions. With your support , EESI has been active in working with the Executive Branch, Congress, and the private sector to promote win-win solutions for a sustainable economy!
We hope that you'll take a moment to show your support again during this holiday season. Next Tuesday (December 3) is Giving Tuesday, a perfect time to donate to your favorite charities. You can help us raise $8,000 online by Giving Tuesday on December 3rd. You'll help us showcase solutions to the policymaking community that are good for the environment and the economy... solutions like reducing key climate pollutants other than carbon dioxide.
While carbon dioxide receives most of the attention in climate mitigation solutions, other climate pollutants have collectively contributed up to 45 percent of the observed global warming to date. These potent climate pollutants - including black carbon (the main component of soot), methane (whose major source is natural gas production), tropospheric ozone (smog), and hydrofluorocarbons (which are common refrigerants) - stay in the atmosphere for much less time than carbon dioxide. This provides an important opportunity to curb climate change in the short term, while pursuing measures to reduce carbon dioxide emissions!
EESI partnered with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to organize two briefings on reducing emissions of these short-lived climate pollutants. Each briefing attracted a standing-room only crowd, eager to listen to top experts and decisionmakers from the State Department, Congress, and private industry. Reducing these pollutants can help mitigate climate change quickly - AND improve health and food security.
When you give today, you're helping us showcase solutions like this!
Thanks in advance and may you have a wonderful holiday season!
