On May 27, President Obama announced $467 million in stimulus funding will go towards the development, distribution, and adoption of solar and geothermal energy across the country to stimulate industrial and technological development and clean energy jobs. Of the total investments, $350 million will help expand geothermal energy through demonstration projects, research and development, exploration, and a national geothermal data system. An additional $117.6 million will expand solar and photovoltaic commercialization through technology development, solar deployment, and industrial research and development. “The nation that leads the world in creating new sources of clean energy will be the nation that leads the 21st-century global economy. That's the nation I want America to be,” stated President Obama.

On May 15, EESI and other members of the Sustainable Energy Coalition brought businesses, trade associations, government agencies, and researchers to Capitol Hill to provide information on the latest technologies to policymakers at the annual Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technology EXPO and Policy Forum .
