The home of the Drummond-Henking family of Woodruff, South Carolina was drafty and uncomfortable, their energy bills were high, and the hard-working family didn't have the money to pay for energy efficiency upgrades.
And most of their electricity comes from coal, leading to big greenhouse gas emissions, a cause of climate change. The situation is all too common across South Carolina and the rest of our nation.
Working with South Carolina's electric cooperatives, EESI is developing a program to test and scale up energy retrofit programs, overcome obstacles to improving building energy efficiency, and curb global warming.

Your donation helps us demonstrate how energy efficiency upgrades paid back through the customer's electric bill can make a world of difference for this family and thousands of others like them. As homeowner Melissa Drummond explained, "saving on our December electric bill makes the extra expenses around Christmas a little easier." She added that they have also enjoyed a warmer, more comfortable house since the upgrade.
