Highlights:

In the House, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) and Rep. Alma Adams (D-N.C.) introduced the Opportunities in Organic Act (H.R.3650), a bill that would reduce barriers to pursuing organic agriculture and aim to strengthen the organic marketplace. EESI partnered with the Natural Resources Defense Council to host a briefing on the climate, health, and economic case for expanding organic agriculture.

Also, Rep. Bobby Scott (D- Va.) introduced the American Offshore Wind Opportunity Act (H.R.3614). The bill would require the Government Accountability Office to conduct a study on ways to develop the offshore wind workforce to meet the Biden-Harris Administration's goal of deploying 30 gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2030. EESI’s Offshore Wind briefing discusses some of the workforce opportunities in the offshore wind sector.

Rep. Norma Torres (D-Calif.) reintroduced the Wildfire Grid Resiliency Act (H.R.3615), a bill that would allocate $10 million to the Department of Energy for projects to improve electrical grid resilience to damage from wildfires. EESI’s Living with Climate Change: Wildfires briefing expands on policy recommendations for wildfire mitigation.

The House Committee on Agriculture held a hearing to discuss the Farm Bill conservation programs administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. EESI tracks the climate, environment, and energy highlights of all the 2023 Farm Bill hearings here and will cover conservation and the Farm Bill during an upcoming briefing on June 21.
