From February 7 to 11, Congress introduced legislation on climate adaptation and held hearings on land conservation and clean hydrogen.
Senator Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) and Representative Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.) introduced bills (S.3621 and H.R.6654) to permanently authorize the U.S. Geological Survey’s National and Regional Climate Adaptation Science Centers. The centers provide scientific information to communities to help them adapt to climate change.
Additionally, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on implementation of the Great American Outdoors Act (P.L. 116-152), which was signed into law in August 2020 and provides resources for land conservation and maintenance of facilities on public lands. The Committee also held a hearing on the opportunities and challenges of deploying clean hydrogen.
