From December 6th-17th, forty-eight bills were referred to committee to address environmental and energy issues. In addition to the introduction of environmentally relevant legislation, Senate committees approved twenty-five and House committees approved two. Seven bill passed the House.

This week, Congress focused on renewable energy. H.R.5374, H.R.5375, and S.2657 would expand research and create energy credits for thermal energy. S.2668 would establish a program for research, development, and demonstration of solar energy technologies, and S.2508 and S.876 relate to energy jobs.

Congress also presented bills on reducing greenhouse gases. H.R.5435 would require the Secretary of the Interior and the Chief of the United States Forest Service to meet certain targets for the reduction of the emission of greenhouse gases, H.R.5354 would require transportation planners to consider projects and strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and H.R.5450 would require a National Aeronautics and Space Administration initiative on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and noise emissions from aircrafts.

The 116th Congress has covered a lot of ground, and the best way to keep up to date is to see the bills for yourself. EESI has curated bills most relevant to energy, environment, and climate topics.
