Daniel Bresette serves as President of the Environmental and Energy Study Institute in Washington, D.C.—a non-profit education and policy organization.

Before joining EESI, Daniel served as the Vice President of Policy at the Alliance to Save Energy, which also involved leading the Energy-Efficient Codes Coalition as its Executive Director. Previously, Daniel was the Maryland Energy Administration’s Senior Energy Policy Manager and oversaw a diverse portfolio of state energy efficiency financing initiatives. He has provided expert testimony to Congress, the Maryland General Assembly, and other regulatory agencies on energy efficiency topics, presented at national conferences, and served on a range of national committees and work groups. Previously, he worked in the strategy practice at Booz Allen Hamilton. He began his career with U.S. Sen. Jim Jeffords (I-VT).

Daniel attended Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in government and international relations. Later, he graduated from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business with a master’s degree in business administration.

Tom is creating a series of short videos for EESI that seek to capture the main points of complicated topics. His work as a volunteer blends an interest in the environment with a passion for filmmaking. "Climate change can be scary and confusing," he says. "But there's lots of good news that gets lost in the doom and gloom. We try to show that, yes, we're facing an existential crisis, but there are people taking steps to address it right now. That's a story that needs telling." Tom grew up in Penfield, New York, and has a BS in Chemistry from St Lawrence University and a BSN in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University.

 

Molly Brind'Amour

Molly Brind'Amour works on EESI's policy team to research, grow, and disseminate our climate policy knowledge. Prior to joining EESI, she served as an Americorps VISTA member in Richmond, Virginia, and interned with the Container Recycling Institute. Molly has a BA in Journalism (Politics, Philosophy, Economics, and Law) from the University of Richmond and a Master's of Public Policy from the University of Virginia.

 

Nibret Daba

Nibret is a detailed and result-oriented IT professional who is serving as EESI’s part-time Salesforce Administrator. She is also responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Carnegie Institute of Science’s Salesforce database. Previously, she was a database administrator for the National Association of Social Workers in Washington, D.C., and a database developer and administrator for Ethiopian Airlines in Addis Ababa. She has a Master in Science in Information Management from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from Addis Ababa University.

As a Senior Communications Associate, Alison creates and publishes content on EESI's website and social media pages. She assists with the planning and promotion of Congressional briefings, as well as the production of EESI's podcast, The Climate Conversation. Alison is also involved with the content creation and design layout of the newsletters Climate Change Solutions and EESI Impact. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Photography and Digital Imaging from Washington University in St. Louis. College years aside, Alison has lived in the D.C. area her entire life. She came to EESI from One Nature Institute, a nonprofit focused on the connections between wildlife conservation, human well-being, and national progress.

 

Aaron Vincent Facundo

Passionate about effectively communicating complex environmental issues, Aaron recently graduated from UMass Amherst, where he successfully completed a double major in Journalism and Resource Economics. Aaron works as one of EESI's two communications associates, contributing to raising awareness about crucial environmental challenges and sustainable energy solutions.

 

Jonathan Herz

Jonathan is developing and promoting policies to incorporate sustainable and healthy practices in the built environment. He recently oversaw real property strategy and policy for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Prior to joining HHS, he researched and promoted sustainable development and high-performance building policy at the U.S. General Services Administration, where he had previously served as a Project Executive and architect for major design and construction projects. He has been featured at numerous conferences, including those of the US Green Building Council and the American Public Health Association. Jonathan has a BS in architecture from the University of Virginia and a Master of Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a registered architect and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.

Amaury oversees communications for EESI, including media relations, briefing logistics, social media, and maintaining this website. Amaury honed his skills at the French Embassy before joining EESI to focus on clean energy, a long-standing interest of his. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Amaury holds an MA in Strategic Management from the University of Nottingham and is a graduate of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris.

Anna leads EESI's team focused on federal policy issues. She organizes Congressional briefings, reviews and edits fact sheets and articles, and tracks Congressional efforts on climate, energy, and environment topics. She focuses on climate adaptation and resilience; international negotiations; federal, state, and local climate commitments; equity and environmental justice; and appropriations and budget. She holds dual master's degrees from the University of Maine in Climate and Quaternary Studies as well as Global Policy, and a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania.

Dan oversees Congressional briefing planning, coordination, and on-site execution. His work is critically important to ensure that EESI's Congressional briefings—both in person and online—are well-planned, run smoothly, and provide a quality, resonant, and timely education resource for policymakers and their staff. His other main role is as our internship program coordinator, which involves taking an active role in intern recruitment, administration, guidance, and mentorship in order to provide stellar experiences for our interns. Daniel holds a master's degree in Global Smart City Management from the University of Barcelona and Zigurat Global Institute of Technology and a BS in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.

 

Jeff Overton

Jeff is working on aviation issues related to emissions mitigation. Prior to joining EESI, Jeff completed a career in aviation at US Airways, and following the company’s merger with American Airlines, retired as an American employee. Nicole supports EESI in augmenting and disseminating environmental policy research, with a focus on the Farm Bill. Prior to joining EESI, she worked at the Stimson Center’s Environmental Security Program on issues surrounding both coastal climate resilience and illegal fishing, and served as a Legislative Intern for the House Committee on Natural Resources. She holds a Master of Environmental Law and Policy from Vermont Law School and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Ithaca College.

Tim does writing, layout, and graphic design for individual donor communications, contributes to foundation proposals and reports, provides database support, and coordinates the EESI Impact newsletter. Previously, he has worked in both development and communications capacities at Ashoka, Peace Corps, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. Tim was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala where he created youth-oriented content for a community radio station, and he has a BA in Media Arts with a focus on video production from Butler University.

 

Carol Werner

Carol Werner served as EESI's Executive Director from 1998 to September 2019. Ms. Werner has more than 35 years of public policy experience on energy and environmental issues. She has organized hundreds of Congressional briefings and many other types of forums, has been a frequent speaker at many conferences and workshops on energy and environmental issues in EESI's program areas, and has been involved with numerous legislative accomplishments.

Carol currently serves on the board of the National Center for Appropriate Technology, the board of the NASEO Institute, the Advisory Board of Planet Forward at George Washington University, and the Advisory Board of the President’s Climate Action Project (PCAP), among others. She served on the steering committee for the peer review of the Department of Energy's Bioenergy R&D Program, the Environmental Advisory Committee of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy, the Policy Committee of the American Solar Energy Society, and the editorial board of BioCycle Magazine. Carol was a co-founder of the U.S. Climate Action Network and the Surface Transportation Policy Project.

Susan leads EESI’s fundraising. She collaborates with the President, Board of Directors, other staff, and donors to enhance organizational sustainability and communications. Susan brings significant experience in development for energy and environmental issues, having previously worked at Conservation International and Green Empowerment. She has also worked in consulting on climate change and other environmental issues. She brings a passion for working to help solve climate change. Susan holds a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, with a concentration in international environment and resource policy.

Miguel is a senior associate for EESI's Access Clean Energy Savings program that assists rural electric cooperatives and public utilities to develop member/customer-focused on-bill financing and beneficial electrification programs. Prior to joining EESI in 2014, Miguel served as a Market Research Analyst for Abengoa Solar in Washington, DC. He holds a graduate degree in Urban Policy Analysis and Management from the New School University in New York City, and an undergraduate degree in Geography and Urban Planning from the Complutense University in Madrid, Spain.
